Line of Duty Series 4: DCI Roseanne "Roz" Huntley

The finale is mind-blowing action-packed intensively explosive.

When it all fell apart with Huntley investigation, but AC-12 was unyielding and continued the investigation through other avenue--the unsolved Laverty case (Series 1), as they finally had substantial evidences, still ACC Derek Hilton (Paul Higgins) not only keeping to roadblock their efforts, but even also serving Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) a Regulation 15 notice using DI Cottan's Dying Declaration implicating that Hasting the top dog--top corrupt police--with H-staring surname.

I was wondering how AC-12 could even savage anything let along to charge Huntley after last week's episode.  But the Series 4 finale did not disappoint, it has got twists, actions, and guilty parties to justice.

From the beginning, when Huntley just stepped into the building and asked Jimmy Lakewell (Patrick Baladi) as her solicitor, I knew she was going to confess, and she sat through all those evidences which Hastings, DS Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure), and DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compsto) did not fail to imply that she did it.

They knew it and she knew it, then she confessed.

The last fifteen minutes were the best part of the entire series, starting with "So did Nick [trust you]," she said and asking if she is still a police officer.  It's going to be epic, I thought to myself, and it was.

"James Lakewell, you do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you fail to mention, when questioned, something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be used in evidence," she cautioned Jimmy.

The best part is the reactions from the opposite of table, Hastings, Fleming, and Arnott all looked at her quizzically, wondering what the heck is going.

Then she presented the telecoms, I already knew Jimmy is guilty, but the twist was coming.  It was there when she was examining the logs at her home, but I didn't see it.  The second burner phone, I honestly still did not see this twist coming until she presented another evidence, that napkin.

That's a belated light bulb lit up, bling!

"And passing information to the balaclava man.  It belongs to Assistant Chief Constable Derek Hilton," she said, cut the whom-she-just-alleged music.

I knew who the phone number belongs to, but hearing her saying, I still had goosebumps.  Their reactions, including DC Jamie Desford (Royce Pierreson) and DS Sam Railston (Aiysha Hart), were purely dumbstruck.

Hastings and Kate were immediately off with armed police to arrest Hilton.  No surprises, he was long gone, tipped off by Jamie, but actions guaranteed.

When Cottan signalled to escape in Series 3 and Kate was like chasing him half of city and shooting and running, it was action pumped.  This might not as shocking as that, but Hastings' shot at that balaclava man holding security hostage was dramatically engaging.

Jamie was never an AC material, a "110%" scapegoat, he even gave his password, a police officer who worked in anti-corruption should have known better.

"You'll be just a collateral damage!" Oh silly Jamie.

DC Jodie Taylor (Claudia Jessie), whenever she was trying to pleasing Huntley, I was clinching my teeth.  Huntley might still have two arms, if Jodie didn't keep helping her.

Series 2 and 3, I thought Denton was the most calculating, I must revise, Huntley was even more calculating.

When Arnott was attacked, lying on staircase, bleeding, and that wasn't long after Jamie reported to AC-12.  My heart was sinking, would Arnott be killed off?

This series definitely got me nail-biting, figuratively speaking, Life of Duty will have at least one more series.  I really want to see their "life's work" come to a satisfactory conclusion, but I also want to watch more series.

The top dog seems clear:
  • DCI Michael Hill
  • Superintendent Susan Hyde-Albert
  • DCI Paul Haleton
  • DCI Raymond Hall
  • Superintendent Michelle Harris
  • ACC Derek Hilton (Series 1 and 4)
  • Chief Superintendent Lester Hargreaves (Series 2 and 4)
  • DCI Roseanne Huntley (Series 4)
  • Superintendent Edward Hastings (Series 1-4)
But you never know.
